Detritus is the embodiment of a fallen world, a world drowning in excess. A creature manifesting what might be called the waste ethic, Detritus is a walking wad of rubbish, and though he’s formed from garbage, he is more ornamental than disgusting.
Detritus is a pop confection laden with seductive packaging – the remains of what we’ve thrown away: wads of gum, jelly beans, Doritoes and cheese doodles, beer cans, plastic bags, cigarette butts, and pizza crust – all of it reassembled in our own image. He is us, our consumer essence – as inescapable as our shadows.
Detritus is an icon of a culture that cries more, more! Wandering the Earth, no place left for him in landfills, this dustbin refugee exudes pathos and regret, a vibrant reminder of our willful abuse of the planet.
